AIFitnessAssistant project introduction

Our ETFRobotics team embarked on an exciting journey with the launch of the AIFitnessAssistant project, supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia under the „Proof of Concept“ call. This project is designed to revolutionize the fitness and sports industries by integrating advanced AI-driven motion analysis to improve workout effectiveness and safety.

The project is coordinated by our doctoral researcher Milos Petrovic, whose PhD research area on AI human-robot interaction aligns with AI aspects of the project, while perfectly matching his personal interests—a factor that provides additional motivation to realize the project’s full potential.

Unlike traditional pose estimation systems, AIFitnessAssistant goes a step further—analyzing video data to estimate which specific muscles are activated during various exercises, all without the need for wearable devices. Using affordable RGB cameras or smartphones and state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, this solution offers:
✔️ Insights into muscle engagement for better performance
✔️ Statistical analysis (analytics) of workout routines
✔️ Guidance to refine workout routines

With the fitness and sports markets experiencing unprecedented growth, AIFitnessAssistant addresses the critical need for accessible and effective tools to monitor and improve exercise execution.
